YOU ARE portrays a grand piano in a concert situation. an object of wealth, of desire, of culture, for a musician a workhorse, an academic reference. in the tension between its great artistic aura and the thought of a possible physicality of its own, locked up in a concert hall and haunted by the hands to which it is subjected, the film navigates through four different pieces of music by the baroque composer jean-philip rameau and the minimalist philip glass.
we looked at the format of the solo piano concerto from a new perspective. as an instrument that is often taken for granted, we wanted to find new ways of approaching the piano. we wanted to set this expensive, heavy and yet fragile instrument in motion, to give it a physical character. as a musician who, whether consciously or unconsciously, always performs a physical task and does not just fulfil a mechanical function in order to make the music sound as good as possible. as a listener, to find new perspectives on an instrument and a repertoire that the classical audience is so used to hearing.

YOU ARE porträtiert einen Flügel in einer Konzertsituation. ein Objekt des Wohlstands, der Begierde, der Kultur, für Musiker:innen ein Arbeitstier, eine akademische Referenz. In der Spannung zwischen der Aura eines Flügels und dem Gedanken an eine mögliche eigene Körperlichkeit, eingesperrt in einem Konzertsaal und heimgesucht von den Händen, denen er unterworfen ist, navigiert der Film durch vier verschiedene Musikstücke des Barockkomponisten Jean-Philip Rameau und des Minimalisten Philip Glass.
Wir haben das Format des Solo-Klavierkonzerts aus einer neuen Perspektive betrachtet. Als ein oft als selbstverständlich angesehenes Instrument wollten wir neue Wege der Annäherung an das Klavier finden. Wir wollten dieses teure, schwere und doch zerbrechliche Instrument in Bewegung setzen, ihm einen physischen Charakter geben. Als Zuhörende, um neue Perspektiven auf ein Instrument und ein Repertoire zu finden, das das klassische Publikum so gewohnt ist zu hören.
